A video story has been published and shared, claiming to feature a trial of former US President Bill Clinton at Guantanamo Bay. However, this claim turns out to be false. In fact, the content of this video is a verbatim reproduction of an article from Real Raw News, a website that publishes “satire” content (verified as such by Reuters’ fact-checking section).
In the distributions made of this video on social networks, it has been seen that some users have believed the story, saying that they "hope that one day this issue will be clarified and everyone will wake up from their sleep and see the truth" (see here).
However, there have also been those who have sought evidence for the claim made (see here).
The source of the report about Clinton is an article published on RealRawNews.com, seen in the archive archived.is/icd0tThe story includes such parts as: “The military trial of William Jefferson Clinton at Guantanamo Bay began Friday, after a three-day delay caused by a female panelist who expressed a fondness for the former president, shocking the Office of Military Commissions.”
However, this article provides no evidence of the alleged trial by a military tribunal of the 42nd President of the United States.
Real Raw News articles and content have been treated several times by Reuters' fact-checking section.
This site also makes it clear in the “about us” section that “The information on this website is for informational, educational, and entertainment purposes. This website contains humor, parody, and satire” (see here).
Angel Urena, a spokeswoman for President Clinton, told Reuters via email that there is simply "no truth behind this."
Bill Clinton last appeared on June 24, 2021, on the show "Late Night" with Seth Meyers.
