A video showing dozens of rockets in the sky is not from the recent Gaza-Israel conflict

HIBRID

A video of a rocket launcher firing dozens of projectiles has been falsely linked to recent events in Gaza and Israel.

This 18-second video, uploaded to Facebook on May 12, shows several projectiles being launched into the dark night sky. Overlaid on the videos are captions that read:

"Rockets fired from Gaza into Israel."

"This is what Israel is suffering these days...", writes a Facebook user in the post of this video.

Since May 10, there have been a series of mutual attacks between Hamas militants and Israeli soldiers. However, a video purporting to be descriptive of these attacks turns out to be old content.

Although Reuters had difficulty locating the exact location and time of the exact version of this video, it has been found that it is at least 3 years old, and as a result, it does not at all depict the events after May 10 of this year, Gaza - Israel.

This footage has been used in various ways by many countries over the years to claim it belongs to their forces, including Iran and Oman. An older version of this video was also posted in March 2018, in association with Qatar.
