Former American official's false statement about Albin Kurti

An image is published showing Albin Kurti, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, and Derek Chollet, an American politician who served in the administrations of Presidents Obama and Biden, with the caption claiming that he stated that "Prime Minister Kurti is key to the future".

content was published on Wednesday (March 11) on the Facebook page called "Gazeta Minuti".

The truth?

Hibrid.info has researched, but has not found credible sources that could confirm the claim in question.

As of the time of writing, the post has over 700 likes and over 100 comments, the content of most of which suggests that the audience is likely to perceive the content as credible.

The caption of the Facebook post claims that Derek Chollet holds the position of Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America (USA).

But, from a search through the Google search engine, it was found that Chollet is currently the managing director and director of the JPMorgan Chase Center for Geopolitics (see here).

He had served as an advisor to the State Department during the Joe Biden presidency and had previously held the position of Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs during the administration of President Barack Obama.

Hibrid.info searched Google for the words of the alleged statement in Albanian and English. Apart from articles that mention Kurti's meetings and conversations with Chollet in the past, the results did not show any credible sources that indicate that the former US official has given personal assessments of the Kosovo Prime Minister (see here and here).

Similar results were also shown after searching for the words in English “derek chollet on albin kurti” (see here).

In an article published by "Telegrafi.com", on April 30, 2022, referring to a post by Chollet on his "X" account, it was reported that during a meeting with Kurti, he assessed that progress in the dialogue with Serbia is the key to Kosovo's European future (see here).

Also, after checking Chollet's account on the "X" platform, no posts were found where he expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Kurti (see here).

Analyze:

Content has been published on the social media Facebook claiming that Derek Chollet, a former American official who served in the administrations of Presidents Obama and Biden, has stated that "Prime Minister Kurti is key to the future."

After verifying the facts, hibrid.info has not found any credible source confirming that such a statement was made by Chollet.

Internet searches (Google), as well as checking his account on the "X" platform, have not revealed any reports or posts that prove that he has given such an assessment of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.

Therefore, based on its work methodology, hibrid.info assesses this content as "Fake News".

rationale

The “Fake News” rating is given to informational content that is entirely fabricated or that contains factually incorrect claims or information. Content that is rated as fake news can be defined as having been created and distributed with the intent to misinform the public, i.e., to present a claim that is completely false as fact.
