Gashi's statement about "collecting signatures for president" is misinterpreted by Haradinaj

Content has been published with the caption that claims that former Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Arben Gashi has declared that Ramush Haradinaj, chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), has started collecting signatures for his candidacy for president of the state.

The contents were published on Thursday (January 29) by the Facebook pages of the media "Zeri”And“Metropolitan" as well as from the pages "TandemPress","Express 02”And“My Pristina".

What is the truth?

Hibrid.info found that Gashi's statement was misinterpreted in these contents.

Hibrid.info has noticed that in all these posts it is emphasized that Gashi gave this statement in an interview for "ATV" television.

After research, a video material was found, taken from this interview and published on the Facebook page of this medium, with the caption "Ramush Haradinaj is collecting signatures for President" (see here).

According to what is seen and heard in the video, Gashi said: "There was an idea, as far as I've seen, that Ramush Haradinaj would collect signatures from individual MPs or from political groups, but I don't know if it was materialized.".

This means that based on Gashi's statement, the collection of signatures of MPs by Ramush Haradinaj for the presidential candidacy was mentioned as an option, but it is not known whether it was implemented.

Meanwhile, in the content discussed, the idea mentioned by Gashi about collecting signatures from Haradinaj is incorrectly presented as a fait accompli.

Hibrid.info has come across statements by several AAK actors, who have suggested that Haradinaj be president, but it is not known whether Gashi referred to these statements (see here and here).

Early parliamentary elections were held on 28 December 2025. The results of these elections have not yet been certified. According to the Law on General Elections, the Central Election Commission certifies the final election results, after the completion of all procedures at polling stations and counting centers, and after the relevant bodies review all potential complaints about the process (see here). While based on the Constitution of Kosovo, the mandate of a member of the Assembly of Kosovo begins on the day of certification of the election results (see here).

In Article 86 of the Constitution of Kosovo It is noted that any citizen can be nominated as a presidential candidate if they secure the signatures of at least 30 members of Parliament. Members of Parliament can only sign for one presidential candidate.

Analyze:

Some content claims that former MP Arben Gashi has stated that Ramush Haradinaj is collecting signatures for his presidential candidacy.

But in reality, Gashi only stated that this was an idea he had heard, without knowing whether it was realized.

Based on its work methodology, hibrid.info assesses this content as "Manipulation of facts".

Reasoning:

“Factual manipulation” is a rating given to informational content that uses facts known to be accurate but interprets them in a distorted manner. These reports typically use accurate information to draw incorrect conclusions or claims, thereby misleading consumers of media content about the actual meaning of the facts presented.
