Russia has attacked Germany more than any other country in the European Union in its disinformation efforts, a new report from the 27-member bloc says.
"No other EU member state is being attacked more than Germany."", says the report published on March 9 by the EU diplomatic service in Brussels.
The report says that "systematic campaigns" have been created from the political level and through media outlets close to power in Russia.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova rejected these EU claims, calling them "ridiculous."
The report comes after the United States accused Russia of a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to undermine confidence in coronavirus vaccines in the US and Western countries.
The EU says that since the end of 2015, more than 700 cases of such disinformation have been collected in Germany in the "EU vs Disinfo" database.
France was also targeted with more than 300 cases, followed by Italy with around 170 cases, this EU report states, among other things.
"The Kremlin is creating an image for Germany by pretending to present a reality that there are significant voices in this country that promote irrational 'Russophobia'," the report says.
Describing the report's findings as "not surprising," German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said developing ties between civil society in Germany and Russia would help disinformation about his country fall on deaf ears.
