Weekly Review: Manipulation of facts regarding Kosovo, clickbait articles about the treasury and trust, disinformation about the dialogue and the EU

HIBRID

During the past week, we have had manipulation of facts regarding Kosovo's declaration of independence, which has been interpreted by the Office for Kosovo as a violation of Serbia's territorial integrity; the claim that official Berlin assesses the situation in the Balkans as unstable and is therefore training Kosovo's military police.

Clickbait articles about the treasury and the trust. Disinformation about the supply of Turkish and American drones to the Albanian army, the claim that Vučić will continue the dialogue for the recognition of Kosovo, the allusion that Von der Leyen has said that the EU is not complete without Kosovo.

Unverified content regarding an egg attack on a nursery, the launch of power cuts due to the collapse of the A3 block, the claim that the media in Kosovo are waging a hybrid war against Radojčić and the Serbs.

Manipulation of facts

On September 12, Serbian media published an article with the claims of the head of the office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, who links the violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity with Kosovo, interpreting Kosovo's independence as a violation of Serbia's territorial integrity. The facts tell us that Kosovo was declared independent after the war for liberation from the Serbian occupier, and that Kosovo's declaration of independence does not constitute a violation of international law and that it has been recognized by more than 100 countries in the world, including the USA and most of the countries of the European Union. Therefore, Kosovo's declaration of independence does not constitute a violation of Serbia's territorial integrity, but an international law. (here, here)

The Serbian daily “Novosti.rs” on September 13 published an article about the training of the KSF by the German army, tendentiously interpreting it as Berlin’s assessment of the situation in the Balkans as unstable and therefore training the Kosovo military police. The claim made through the title, which implies that there is an official position from Berlin on the security situation in the Balkan region, does not correspond to the development presented in the content. (here, here)

Clickbait

The information portal "Gazeta Demos" on September 12 published an article titled "Treasury Secretary: Fuel prices may increase during the winter". After fact-checking by hibrid.info, it turns out that the title is a generalization that does not indicate which country's Treasury Secretary is in question. (here, here)

The dubious portal “al.truepostnew.com” on September 14 published an article regarding the decline in investments in “Trust”, while the title falsely claimed that this institution had made a decision. After fact-checking by hibrid.info, it was confirmed that the title of this article is fabricated and does not correspond to the content. (here, here)

The article titled “Two girls aged 15 and 17 raped by several people” was published yesterday (September 16) by the information portal “Kosova-sot.info”. After fact-checking by hibrid.info, it turns out that the title did not make clear the news and location of this event. This is only made clear in the content, which states that “two teenage sisters in India have been found raped and lifeless, hanging from a tree, in the latest incident of sexual violence that has shocked the country”. (here, here)

disinformation

The dubious portal with content in Albanian “analiza.koranews24.com” on September 11 published an article titled “BIG NEWS: Albanian Army equipped with Turkish drones and American “beasts”?” After fact-checking by hibrid.info, it has been confirmed that the title of this article is incorrect, while the news is old and published on July 11. (here, here)

The dubious portal “a.news29media.com” has published an article with the statement of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who stated that he will not recognize Kosovo directly or indirectly. This dubious portal has given this article a false title claiming that Vučić has said that he is in favor of dialogue for the recognition of the state of Kosovo. So, it is not true that Vučić has said that he is in favor of dialogue for the recognition of the state of Kosovo, as claimed in the title. (here, here)

The dubious portal “news426media.com” on September 14 published an article containing the statement of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who stated that the EU is not complete without the “Western Balkans”. While this article was given a fabricated title with the claim that Von der Leyen said that the EU is not complete without Kosovo. (here, here)

The dubious portal “analiza.koranews24.com” has published an old article from June regarding the agreement between Kosovo and Albania to open the border (without restrictions) during weekends in the summer season. This dubious portal has tried to present this old article as current by giving it a made-up title “Albania unites with Kosovo, borders between the two countries are 'removed'”. (here, here)

Unverified content

The information portal “Arbresh.info” on September 13 published an article with the claim in the title that the “Lulevera” kindergarten in Pristina was attacked with eggs and potatoes thrown from the balcony due to the strike. While, in the content, citing its own sources within this kindergarten, this portal says that the educators are currently thinking that the throwing of eggs and potatoes happened accidentally and not with the intention of an attack. (here, here)

On September 14, the Serbian language media published a statement by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MP Vladimir Djukanovic, who, during a speech in the Serbian Parliament, alluded that the media in Kosovo had been tasked with waging a hybrid war against Radojcic in particular, but also against Kosovo Serbs in general. The allegations made by the Serbian MP Djukanovic, which have gained ground in the Serbian language media, that the media in Kosovo are allegedly ordered by the center, specifically Kurti's government, to wage a hybrid war against Serbs, specifically Milan Radojcic, are not accompanied by any supporting facts. The Serbian MP's statement was not accompanied by concrete facts and details that would support his claim. (here, here)

The information portal “Demokracia.com” published on September 16 an article claiming that, according to information, power cuts will begin at 24:00, as a result of the shutdown of the A3 block. And, according to this portal, such a thing will continue to be kept hidden by KEK. This claim was later refuted by a KEK announcement, which made the information irrelevant. KEDS, in their announcement about the electricity situation during the day of September 17, did not write that there will be power cuts as a result of a lack of supply, but as a result of network works. error

Several news portals on September 15 and 16 appear to have mistakenly published an open letter by neuropsychiatrist Afrim Blyta, which is old (2020). In this letter, Blyta criticized Kosovo's leaders at the time. Publishing this old article, with the claim of presenting it as current, may misinform readers. (here, here)

Lies

The information portal “KosovaPost.net” on September 15 published an article with a statement by the leader of the PDK, Memli Krasniqi, who called the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, a coward, after the latter had stated that it was not surprising that the opposition was supporting the strike in education. However, this portal attached a photo to this article showing the leader of the PDK, Memli Krasniqi, and the leader of the SBASHK, Rrahman Jasharaj. Hibrid.info has managed to confirm that this photo is edited, since the real image does not show Jasharaj, but the mayor of the Drenas municipality, Ramiz Lladrovci. (here, here)
