Request for salary compensation from KSF members is falsely published as news about the start of this compensation

HIBRID

The dubious portal named "Skenderaj Press" has published an article claiming that compensation for members of the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) has begun for the difference in salary, based on the regulation for increasing the salaries of KSF members, according to their ranks.

The portal in question makes this claim through the title, while the content indicates that KSF members are demanding compensation for these salaries.

Hibrid.info has verified and confirmed that there is a court decision in favor of the KSF members, but their compensation has not begun.

The article published on January 26th is titled "KSF soldiers begin to be compensated for the unpaid portion of their salaries by the Ministry of Defense".

Part of the article content:

"The KSF members have begun to demand compensation for the salary increase that was foreseen according to the Decision on the salary increase that former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj had taken in December 2018.".

After research by hibrid.info, it was learned that in February 2020, the regulation for increasing salaries for KSF members, according to their ranks, came into force by the government of Ramush Haradinaj (see here).

However, further research by hibrid.info found that the decision of this regulation had not been implemented with all its full force (see here), until July 28 when it was abolished by the current Prime Minister, Albin Kurti (see here).

Using search engines, hibrid.info found articles published in several Albanian-language media outlets on January 27 of this year, which indicated that a verdict by the Basic Court in Peja ruled in favor of a KSF member who had requested compensation for this salary through legal channels. It was also indicated that 300 KSF members are expected to sue the Ministry of Defense over this issue (see here and here).

The decision of the Basic Court of Peja, published in these articles:

"The defendant Ministry of Defense - Kosovo Security Force is ordered to pay the plaintiff, in the name of additional compensation for professional advancement to the rank of sergeant, for the period from 01.02.2020 to 28.07.2021, the difference in the amount of €2,583.00 as well as the jubilee bonus for 10 years of work experience, the amount of €112.20, in the total amount of €2,695.20," states the judgment of the Basic Court in Peja.

Analyze:

It is alleged that compensation has begun for KSF members for the increased salaries they did not receive during the period from February 2020 to July 2021, as provided for in the regulation approved by the Haradinaj government.

Hibrid.info has confirmed that in fact, members of the KSF, based on a court decision that grants them the right to their requests, have begun to pursue legal avenues to seek this compensation.
