Suspicious portals as well as information portals in the Albanian language have, in recent days, published articles with generalizing titles about tragic cases that have occurred in other countries.
During daily monitoring, hibrid.info has managed to collect several articles with such a structure from the dubious portals "lajmifundit.al" and "belmouth.com" and from the information portal "ntv.al".
So, these portals have placed generalizing titles on these articles, not making the location of the event clear, and considering that their content is in Albanian, these titles mislead the audience into believing that the event may have occurred in any of the Albanian-speaking countries.
Titles placed in published articles:
Serious, bus with students goes off the road and overturns in the canal (February 28)
Shocking incident/ A university student and two men are killed (February 29)
Serious crime within the family, father-in-law kills son-in-law and then himself (March 1)
Links to articles published on dubious and informational portals:
The article from "belmouth.com" titled "Severe, the bus with students goes off the road and overturns in the canal", in its content indicates that the incident occurred in Italy, while hibrid.info, to further confirm this fact, found the article published by the Italian medium "news.italy24.press", which states that this accident occurred in Baragiano, Italy. (see here)
The article by "ntv.al" about the murder of 3 people only explains in the content that it happened in South Africa, while hibrid.info has also found the article by the British medium "bbc.com", which reported on the same event and immediately provided the information in the title that the event happened in Johannesburg, South Africa. (see here)
While the article of "lajmifundit.al" titled ""Serious crime within the family, father-in-law kills son-in-law and then himself", It happened in Greece and the Greek media outlet "ekathimerini" also reported on this event, stating that it happened in Nikaia, Greece. (see here)
Analyze:
Some information portals and dubious portals have published articles with generalizing titles regarding tragic cases that have occurred in other countries, without indicating in the title the place where the case occurred.
These cases occurred in non-Albanian-speaking countries, while the content of these portals is in Albanian, and by not clarifying where the event occurred, it implies the possibility of the event occurring in the territory of one of the Albanian-speaking countries in the region, thus misleading readers.
Based on its work methodology, hibrid.info considers these articles to be "Clickbait".
Reasoning:
“Clickbait” is considered to be informational content whose title is general and does not disclose the location of the event, context and relevance. Such texts and articles aim to attract the attention of the audience with sensational headlines with misleading consequences, which do not accurately clarify the content of the article. “Clickbait” headlines are mainly made to attract readability in the case of media publications and/or to earn from clicks in the case of commercial publications.
