Hibrid.info has presented the main findings of the research report to the European Parliament “The Chatbot Version of Truth: A Study on the Spread of Narratives through Artificial Intelligence Chatbots”.
Hibrid.info participated in the two-day high-level conference “Democracy Matters – Facts Matter”, held on 27 and 28 January at the European Parliament in Brussels. The conference was co-organised by the European Parliament, the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) and the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO).
The event brought together representatives of European institutions, MEPs, fact-checking experts, researchers, journalists and civil society actors from across Europe. The discussions focused on threats to media freedom, the impact of disinformation and foreign manipulation of information (FIMI/DIMI), and the implementation of the EU regulatory framework, including the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the AI Act.
During the panels, it was emphasized that the protection of facts is essential for the functioning of democracy and that this requires not only legal regulation, but also inter-institutional cooperation, long-term investments and the involvement of the private sector. The strategic importance of media education and the irreplaceable role of journalism and fact-checking in an information space dominated by digital platforms were also underlined.
Panel on Artificial Intelligence and Public Information
One of the key discussions of the conference was the panel “How to survive or thrive in the artificial intelligence revolution?”, which addressed the impact of AI on information, media and democracy. The panel was moderated by Yasmina Yakimova from the European Parliament and brought together key stakeholders from the fields of policymaking, technology and research.
Hibrid.info researcher Hyrije Mehmeti also participated in this panel, alongside the European Parliament rapporteur for the AI Act, Brando Benifei, the head of AI at Full Fact, Andrew Dudfield, and the director of the Oxford Internet Institute, Scott Hale.

(I.e. “The Chatbot Version of Truth: A Study on the Spread of Narratives through Artificial Intelligence Chatbots”.
The report is the first of its kind in the Balkans and analyzes how major linguistic models (MLMs) shape – and in some cases distort – geopolitical narratives, with a particular focus on Kosovo and the Western Balkans, within a broader global comparison.
The discussion highlighted that while AI tools can help identify disinformation, human-generated information, professional journalism and fact-checking remain essential, as AI models still produce errors, lack of context and structural bias. The need for AI to be developed and used in a transparent, ethical and lawful manner was also highlighted, as was the importance of public education about its risks and limitations.
