Old image of Vlora Çitaku in the Orthodox Church in Prizren is falsely presented as her current visit to the Deçan Monastery

An account named "Fleta Press" published (March 30) an image on Facebook, showing the deputy leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Vlora Çitaku, at the entrance to an Orthodox religious building.

The author of this publication has placed the caption "The Secretary of the PDK, Ms. Vlora Çitaku, was visiting the Deçan Monastery, apparently to congratulate it on the land that the Constitution gave to the Monastery, 24 hectares!".

But, after fact-checking by hibrid.info, it has been confirmed that the photograph depicts the moments of Çitaku's visit to the municipality of Prizren in 2013, during the time when she was serving as Minister of European Integration, as on that occasion she also met with representatives of the Orthodox Church in Prizren.

The account in question also has 7 thousand followers (here).

After researching using search engines, hibrid.info found that the image in question was taken from a press release published on the website of the Ministry of European Integration, regarding the visit of the former head of this department, Vlora Çitaku, to the municipality of Prizren (see here).

In the press release issued on January 22, 2013, it is announced that the purpose of the visit was to condemn the damage to the Orthodox cemetery in Prizren, where she also met with representatives of the Orthodox Church in this municipality.

Also, to prove that Minister Çitaku's visit in 2013 is not related to the Constitutional Court's decision on the properties of the Deçan Monastery, hibrid.info has found that this institution had made and published the decision regarding this issue in May 2016 (see here).

Analyze:

The claim that the image, which shows PDK vice-president Vlora Çitaku near an Orthodox religious building, depicts moments from her visit to the Deçan Monastery, is not true.

Hibrid.info has found that the published image shows Çitaku's visit to the municipality of Prizren in 2013, during the time she was Minister of European Integration, where she also visited the Orthodox Church in this municipality.

Based on its work methodology, hibrid.info assesses this content as "Disinformation".
