There was no clash between Thaçi and Peres over Palestine

HIBRID

A Facebook page called "Supporters of the PDK" has published a speech by former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, claiming that during his time as prime minister he had opposed the now-deceased former Israeli President Shimon Peres regarding the disputes between Israelis and Palestinians.

After fact-checking conducted by hibrid.info, it has been confirmed that Thaçi never held such a position. Such content turns out to have been fabricated by the satirical Facebook group "Breaking Bad Kosovo".

The page "Supporters of PDK" has fallen prey to this satirical post, which it published as true, misinforming its followers that supposedly "Thaci has embarrassed his Israeli counterpart."

Post from the “PDK Supporters” page on Facebook:

Hashim Thaçi's speech when he was Prime Minister of Kosovo that embarrassed Israeli Prime Minister Peres:

"Dear Peres, your voice is high as a result of the psychology of being guilty, know that my voice will not be so high. When it comes to killing, you know very well how to kill. I know very well how you killed them, how you shot children on the beaches. You have had prime ministers who say that "When I enter Palestine on top of tanks, it gives me another happiness"

"From now on, the European Union is over for me and I won't come next time, you know, because you don't let me speak freely, (Perez) spoke for 25 minutes and I for 12 minutes...it's unacceptable."

Prime Minister Thaçi left the meeting to applause from those present.

In the satirical group "Breaking Bad Kosovo", which has nearly 65 thousand members, it is written "In this group there is only humor, if you don't understand humor, don't join."

However, even in the content of the satire posted on “Braking bed Kosova” there are errors in terms of how these two statesmen are referred to. In fact, at the time Thaçi served as Prime Minister of Kosovo (2008 – 2014), Peres was the President of Israel (2007 – 2014), which makes the reference to “counterparts” inappropriate in this case.

Analyze:

The "Supporters of the PDK" page has fallen prey to a satirical group on Facebook, sharing a "statement" by Thaçi, who allegedly shamed the former Israeli prime minister for the disagreements his country has with Palestine.

After fact-checking analysis, hibrid.info has assessed this post as "satire".

Reasoning:

The “Satire” rating includes content that uses premeditated news that uses satire to portray reality. This is also a way of reporting that is not problematic, if the media manages to argue that it is satirical content.

The purpose of including this assessment in the methodology is to indicate this type of content in situations where it can be claimed to be a genuine media report and when it becomes potentially harmful in the event of further transmission without being able to clearly explain that it is a satirical text. So in such cases, if a text fails to clarify that it has satirical content, it may be understood as genuine and, as a result, may create a wrong opinion in the audience. However, the media that publishes this type of content cannot be on one of the negative lists solely because of the publication of this type of content.
