False claim that Kosovo has obtained tanks from Turkey

HIBRID

Wrote: Etrit Rexhepi

A video material has been published showing a photograph from the meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with the claim that an agreement has been reached to secure the Tank shown in the photograph.

The content was found posted (September 21) on TikTok, by an account named "fbi13039".

The truth?

Hibrid.info has found the alleged information is not confirmed.

Content published in TikTok, was also found and published on Facebook, by an account named "Bedi Nuredini", where by the time of treatment, the video has received over 3 thousand likes and over 150 comments.

The photo was taken from the meeting between the leaders, on February 3, 2023, while the same ones met at the end of May 2024.

Based on public statements, the provision of such tanks, as claimed, is not confirmed.

The findings show that the only agreement for Kosovo's arms purchase from Turkey, confirmed by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is the one for the purchase of Bayraktar TB-2 drones (see here).

Also, other data found shows that on (September 3), Prime Minister Kurti left open the possibility of cooperation between the two countries for the production of ammunition, during a meeting with the president of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency, Haluk Gorgun, but without confirming a concrete agreement (see here).

Another fact that refutes the claim in question is the failure to confirm the news by the Ministry of Defense, as the competent institution managing the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF), which is tasked with protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo (see here).

Analyze:

The claim that Kosovo has provided tanks, in agreement with Turkey, is not accurate.

The claim in question has not been confirmed.
