Manipulated newspaper front page with Kurti republished

HIBRID

Wrote: Etrit Rexhepi

An image has been published that looks like the front page of a German-language newspaper.

The main title in German reads: “Kommunismus kommt wieder zurück in Kosovo"(Communism is returning to Kosovo).

Meanwhile, below is a photograph of Albin Kurti, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, with the caption above the image that reads: "Albin Kurti a Serbian spy"(Albin Kurti a Serbian spy).

This content was published on Facebook on Thursday (March 12) by a page called "Kosova e Re". Post has the inscription "International media calls Albin Kurti a COMMUNIST!"".

This content was created using an application that has several forms available that look like newspaper front pages, which can be modified by uploading photos, as desired, and placing them, creating an image that looks like a newspaper front page.

The truth?

The content in question is visually manipulated.

As of the time of writing, the content has over 460 reactions, over 600 comments, and over 130 shares.

The page that published it has over 55 thousand followers (see here).

It is not the first time that hibrid.info has dealt with the same content (see here). Hibrid.info found that the same content was published on March 12, 2021, by a suspicious portal named “top24.mk”, where an article was published, based on the claims of this image (see here).

Hibrid.info also did not find any German-language newspaper with the name “BALD”. The search results directed it to the German-language newspaper “BILD”, with which the content dealt with has a similar format and design (see here).

Based on previous treatments, hibrid.info confirms that this content was created using a special application that has several forms available that look like newspaper front pages, which can be modified by uploading photos, as desired, and placing them, creating an image that looks like a newspaper front page.

How is such content generated?

Hibrid.info had found the application used by the creator of this photo. The online application has several forms available that look like newspaper front pages, which can be modified by uploading photos, as desired, and placing them, shaping an image that looks like a newspaper front page.

The creator of this photo used the online application from the website with the domain of the state of Germany, "https://www.onlinewahn.de”, which is available in German.

To create such content is very easy. See the steps of creating content in the pictures below:

Hibrid.info also used the chatbots “ChatGPT” and “Google Gemini” to obtain more information about the website in question. Based on the results of the questions asked, it can be said that the website in question is intended for entertainment and satire.

Analyze:

An image has been published that appears to be the front page of a German newspaper with the headline “Kommunismus kommt wieder zurück in Kosovo” and a photo of Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, with the caption “Albin Kurti eine Serbische spion.” The posts suggest that the content is real and that the news was reported by international media.

After fact-checking, Hibrid.info has confirmed that the image is visually manipulated and does not represent a real newspaper. No German newspaper with the name “BALD” was found. The design and format of the image resemble the newspaper “BILD”, but the content is manipulated.

In fact, the content is created with an online generator application, where you can upload photos and add headlines to shape a newspaper front page as you wish. This generator, according to the chatbots, is intended for entertainment and satire, and not for publishing real news.

Therefore, based on the working methodology, hibrid.info assesses the content as "Fraud".

Reasoning:

The “Deception” rating is given to informational content that is manipulated in terms of visual (deepfake, cheapfake), audio, or textual content to deceive the audience. This form of deception is usually used to produce false and manipulated content.
