HIBRID

Wrote: Etrit Rexhepi

A sponsored link is published, in the form of an image, with the caption claiming that pensions in Kosovo will increase in 2024.

The content, which also includes a photo of Albin Kurti, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, was published on August 3 on Facebook by the page named "Chirstest2-service".

How does the truth stand?

Hibrid.info has researched and confirmed that no pension increase is foreseen for this year.

Why was the claim handled?

Activity has been observed in the content with 24 comments as of the time of writing this article.

Hibrid.info has found that after clicking on the attached link, a web page opens, which lacks the name of the institution, organization or business it represents. The opened page contains several sections, which in most cases, after clicking, send to external web pages, but which have nothing to do with the Government of Kosovo or any of its decisions (see here).

Hibrid.info has also checked through the website credibility platform, “ScamDoc.com”. According to the data of this platform, the credibility of the website in question is assessed to be very low (see here).

Meanwhile, in the timeline of the Facebook page where the alleged announcement was published, a small number of posts were observed (see here).

This page is not related to the Government of Kosovo and lacks information about its activities. The information shows the location of the people who manage this page.

Hibrid.info has also browsed the website of the Prime Minister's Office, but has not found an official decision to increase pensions (see here).

Analyze:

The claim about increasing pensions in Kosovo is untrue.

The claim was published by a dubious source, while the decision has not been confirmed by the relevant institutions.

Based on its working methodology, hybrid.info assesses the content as "Fake News" "Hoax".

Reasoning:

The “Fake News” rating is given to informational content that is entirely fabricated or that contains factually incorrect claims or information. Content that is rated as fake news can be defined as having been created and distributed with the intent to misinform the public, i.e., to present a claim that is completely false as fact.

The “Deception” rating is given to informational content that is manipulated in terms of visual (deepfake, cheapfake), audio, or textual content to deceive the audience. This form of deception is usually used to produce false and manipulated content.
