A case of burning of the car of the candidate for mayor of Zveçan was reported.

The article with this claim was published on Friday (August 22) by the information portals "Indeksonline.net”And“Demokracia.com".

The truth?

After verifying the facts, it was determined that the claim is incorrect. The burned car belongs to Časlav Sofronijević, advisor to the former Mayor of Zvečan from the Serbian List, Dragisa Milovic.

After conducting online research, hibrid.info found the article published on the information portal "teve1.info", which explains that it is about Sofronijevic's car. (here)

He also spoke about this case to the Serbian-language online portal, "Kosovo-Onlinecom". (here)

"Since the moment the Serbian List published its list of candidates for the municipal assembly, in which I am also a member, various stories have started circulating on social networks. Neither I nor my family have anything to do with them. As an epilogue to all of this, what happened tonight happened. I am convinced that this is an attack on me and my family, behind which stand individuals who do not come before the people, but in the dark try to cause harm and pain, both for me and for our people. I stand firmly behind the policy pursued by the Serbian List and I am convinced that this is the only right path for the good of our people in the space of Kosovo and Metohija.", Sofronijevic declared for Kosovo-online.com.

What did the Kosovo Police say about this case?

The head of the operational planning and assessment unit at the North Mitrovica Regional Police Directorate, Erduan Baliqi, told Kosovo-online.com that the cause of the fire was a malfunction in the vehicle's electrical installations.

"Based on the initial information and evidence so far, we suspect that the fire was caused solely by electrical installations," he said, adding that there are no suspects at the moment and that the investigation is continuing in accordance with the law and established procedures.

On August 15 it was reported that the Serbian List presented candidates for mayor, and that Dragisa Milović announced that he would run again for mayor of Zvečan.

However, on Thursday (August 21) during a meeting, the Kosovo Central Election Commission has not certified the Serbian List for the local elections on October 12. The recommendation for the certification of the Serbian List received only 2 votes for, 2 against and 7 abstentions.

Analyze:

On August 22, several Albanian-language portals reported that the car of the candidate for mayor of Zvečan had been burned. After verification, it turned out that the burned car belonged to Časlav Sofronijević, an advisor to the former mayor of Zvečan from the Serbian List, Dragiša Milović.

Sofronijevic stated that he sees the burning as an attack on him and his family, while he stands behind the politics of the Serbian List. However, the Kosovo Police clarified that based on initial information and evidence, the fire was the result of a defect in the vehicle's electrical installations and that there are no suspects in the case.

Based on its work methodology, hibrid.info assesses the article published on "Indeksonline.net" and "Demokracia.com" as "Unverified Content".

Reasoning:

The "Unverified" rating is given to those informative contents that do not provide sufficient information to confirm the claims made in the report, and which could not be verified due to certain circumstances (speed, lack of sources) during the publication of the content.
