The video footage does not show Palestinians faking their deaths, it is a 2013 protest in Egypt

FESTIM RIZANAJ

A Facebook account published a video on October 29 showing several seemingly lifeless bodies of people appearing completely covered in white sheets, on which there are writings in Arabic letters, and among them, one is moving.

Through this video material, it is claimed to present that the images are current and that the Palestinian people are faking death.

After verifying the facts, it was found that the video is not from the recent Israel-Hamas conflict, but was filmed in 2013.

After research conducted through online search engines, it was found that the video footage depicts a protest by a group of students accompanied by the Muslim Brotherhood group at Al-Azhar University (Cairo), in which they claim to be dead in protest.

The video footage, analyzed by Spanish fact-checkers Maldita.es, shows people lying on the university floor covered with white sheets. In the footage, some people move, such as a man scratching his nose, which can be seen up close. But the images do not correspond to the current Israel-Hamas conflict with the idea that the Palestinian people are allegedly faking their deaths in Gaza, as is claimed: they are images originally published on the YouTube channel of the Egyptian newspaper Al-Badil more October 28, 2013system. (here, here)

The released video footage shows a group of students from Al-Azhar University in Egypt and members of the Muslim Brotherhood group staging a form of protest against the Egyptian police and army. The events took place after what happened in the Rabia Massacre in August of that same year (2013) against protesters who did not support the coup that ended Mohamed Morsi's government a few months ago. The student protests spread beyond these scenes: they blocked the streets and organized massive demonstrations in the following days.

Analyze:

Through a video posted on Facebook, it is claimed that the footage depicts Palestinian propaganda during the current Israel-Hamas conflict by faking their deaths.

After fact-checking, it was found that the video footage is a hoax claiming that these images are real and that the Palestinian people are faking their deaths. The video footage is from 2013 and belongs to a Muslim Brotherhood protest at Al-Azhar University in Cairo.
