Disinformation is false information that is intentionally spread to deceive. This news assessment is presented as a subset of misinformation.
During the past year, disinformation has taken hold in Kosovo and regional media outlets targeting Kosovo. This year too, hibrid.info has addressed a large number of them that circulated in online media.
Hibrid.info has been preparing monthly misinformation reports since July. In the percentage of rating categories during July, disinformation ranked first with 42%.
A large portion of the misinformation articles with the "Disinformation" rating during July were those whose content dealt with political events, dominated by those related to developments around Kosovo-Serbia relations, followed by events in the north and political rhetoric between leaders. In the August report, the "misinformation" rating decreased from the previous month, ranking second in the category at 23%.
Disinformation articles on the border between Kosovo and Serbia, social schemes, price increases in essential products, and disinformation regarding the arming of the KSF by allied countries received the disinformation rating from the monitoring for the month of August. These articles mainly contain inaccurate and/or half-truthful sources. (see here August report)
In addition to August, in September the "misinformation" rating took the lead with the highest percentage of misinformation articles, ranking first with 29%.
In September, misinformation articles within this category were published mainly by dubious media in the political, socio-economic and educational fields. The topics that dominated in this category were those about the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, developments in the north, visa liberalization, price increases, teachers' strike, etc. News with false content and unconfirmed sources were distributed in this category. Articles rated as "misinformation" during October ranked second in the ratings category with 32%.
Articles categorized as disinformation were those about relations between Kosovo and Serbia, namely the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities, the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Russian aggression in Ukraine, Russia's influence in Kosovo and the Balkan region. Articles in this category had false content and unconfirmed sources, and most of them were distributed by Serbian media that dealt with political and security aspects in relation to Kosovo. Compared to previous months, during November the “misinformation” rating ranked third as a category, with only 9%. This has only happened once since July, when hibrid.info started monitoring misinformation articles,
During this period, articles about Kosovo-Serbia relations, northern Kosovo and some other news in the field of sports and economy were published in this category. (see here November report)
