Covid vaccines are now accessible to the majority of the UK population, but some people – particularly young people of African descent – are still hesitant to get them.
Adults with this background, and people aged 18-21, are more likely to not get the vaccines, according to data from the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS).
BBC Radio's 1Xtra podcast, through several opinions with citizens, has seen that the reason for not accepting vaccination is the spread of misinformation.
YouTube has, since February 2020, removed more than 900,000 videos that presented dangerous or misleading information about Covid, according to statistics provided in the podcast.
In a BBC radio interview, African-British physician Dr. Tosin Sotubo, who has had extensive discussions with social groups most affected by vaccine misinformation, said:
"People are nervous about the fact that the vaccination has started so quickly and they are suspecting that this is an experimental campaign and that they do not know the side effects. While some others also have religious issues related to vaccination."
