Incorrect claim that the Sempervivum tectorum plant “can save you from all diseases”

FATBARDH DEMA

The portal "Kosova-sot.info" published today (June 8) an article titled "This plant can save you from all possible diseases."

After fact-checking conducted by hibrid.info, it has been confirmed that the title of this article does not correspond to the content.

The article claims that the plant called “Sempervivum tectorum” is used as a medicine for earache and against inflammation. It also states that “studies show that the juice from this plant affects the immune system and prevents cancer.”

However, after research conducted through online search engines, hibrid.info has proven that this plant does not help treat all diseases, as claimed in the title.

After researching and verifying the facts, hirbid.info found a study published in 2015 by the Journal of Ethnopharmacology on the website ScienceDirect.com regarding the plant “Sempervivum tectorum”. (see here)

This study states that the plant in question is used in traditional medicine to treat ear inflammation known as OtitisIt can also be used for burns or wounds, and for the treatment of ulcers, it is recommended to drink tea prepared from its leaves.

The ethnopharmacological survey of this study revealed that the use of this plant in southern Serbia is for the treatment of earaches, warts, cancer, stomach pain, ulcers, and high blood sugar levels.

But, despite this, the conclusion reached by this study is that "The ethnopharmacological use of the sap of the plant "Sempervivum tectorum" for the treatment of earache is justified, as the sap had antimicrobial activity against clinical isolates of bacteria associated with otitis (middle ear infection).
