Fraudulent message on behalf of Facebook containing virus

HIBRID

A warning message in Albanian is circulating on Facebook, claiming that the user's account is at risk of suspension due to violating the company's META rules.

The message asks the user to submit a complaint via an attached link, in order to avoid account restriction or closure.

What's wrong with this message?

After verifying the link, it was determined that it contained a virus known as "Malware" and was not sent by Facebook.

Hibrid.info has analyzed this link through the specialized website verification site, "Scamdoc.com". The verification results show that the page in question is dangerous and contains the virus known as "Malware", thus confirming that it is a scam and not an official communication from Facebook.

What is “Malware”?

Malware or malicious application is any software intentionally created to cause interference with a computer, server, client or computer network, leak private information, gain unauthorized access to information or systems, deny access to information or that inadvertently interferes with the security and privacy of the user's device.

Malware is not a virus, but is a malicious software/application that invades or corrupts your computer network. The purpose of malware is to cause irreparable damage and steal information or resources for monetary gain or obvious sabotage purposes.

Common types of malware include Trojan viruses, worms, spyware, adware, and ransomware. (see here and here)

Facebook has in the past issued notices to users about these fake messages, clarifying that they should not be trusted. (see here)

You can trust a message from META platforms if the addresses end with:

facebookmail.com (including priority.facebookmail.com )

facebook.com (including support.facebook.com and developers.facebook.com )

fb.com

metamail.com

meta.com

Analyze:

A fraudulent message in Albanian is being distributed on Facebook, falsely claiming that the user's account is at risk of suspension by META.

The message contains a dangerous link and does not come from Facebook. After verification by Hibrid.info through the “Scamdoc.com” platform, the link contained in the message turns out to be infected with the “Malware” virus.

Based on the working methodology, hibrid.info evaluates this message as "Fraud".

Reasoning:

The “Deception” rating is given to informational content that is manipulated in terms of visual (deepfake, cheapfake), audio, or textual content to deceive the audience. This form of deception is usually used to produce false and manipulated content.
