There is no decision or set date for new elections.

OUR VERDICT

UNVERIFIED CONTENT

It has not yet been decided whether there will be new elections in Kosovo.

Images are published with the caption "The date for the new elections in the country has been announced.".

The content with this caption was published on Monday (April 20) on Facebook by pages with the names "Minuti Newspaper”And“Fronti.info".

What is the truth?

It has not yet been decided whether there will be new elections in Kosovo.

The page “Gazeta Minuti” has over 250 thousand followers, while the page “Fronti.info” has over 46 thousand followers. Both posts have links to the articles attached. The articles have the caption of the posts as titles (see here and here).

While the title claims that the date for new elections in the country has been announced, the text makes it clear that there is no official decision for parliamentary elections in Kosovo, there is no date set by the institutions, and June 7 is only mentioned as "the most talked about date."

So, from this it is noticeable that there is a discrepancy between the information presented in the title and the content.

Due to this uncertainty, hibridi.info has researched this claim further. According to the Constitution of Kosovo, it is the competence of the President of Kosovo to announce elections for the Assembly of Kosovo (see here). Therefore, hibrid.info has checked the website of the presidency of Kosovo. From the published announcements, none have been found confirming new elections in the country (see here).

Hibrid.info also used the Google search engine, searching for the words “new elections” and limiting the results to the last 24 hours. The search results showed credible media articles reporting statements by Albin Kurti, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, mentioning the possibility of new elections (see here).

In an article found by this research, it was understood that the country has until April 28 to elect the country's president, otherwise, the failure of this process means elections within 45 days (see here). This information is based on the March 25 judgment of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo (see here). Meanwhile, another article explains that today's meeting between Prime Minister Kurti and the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) ended without a solution (see here).

So, based on this published information, despite the possibility that the country will go to new elections in eight days, we still have no confirmation that there will be early elections in Kosovo. For this reason, there is also a lack of discussions about the date of possible elections.

Analyze:

The claim that the "date for new elections in the country has been learned" is not correct, as there is no official decision from Kosovo's institutions to announce new parliamentary elections and consequently no confirmed date for their holding.

The caption is based on an inaccurate and speculative interpretation of current political developments, mentioning the possibility of elections in the event of the failure of political agreements and constitutional deadlines, and mentioning June 7 only as a "rumored date" in the political scene.

According to information so far, there is no official announcement from the Presidency of Kosovo or relevant institutions confirming the announcement of new elections or the setting of a concrete date for them.

Therefore, based on the working methodology, hibrid.info evaluates the information in the title as "Clickbait" and "Unverified Content".

Reasoning:

“Clickbait” is considered to be informational content whose title is general and does not disclose the location of the event, context and relevance. Such texts and articles aim to attract the attention of the audience with sensational headlines with misleading consequences, which do not accurately clarify the content of the article. “Clickbait” headlines are mainly made to attract readability in the case of media publications and/or to earn from clicks in the case of commercial publications.

The "Unverified" rating is given to those informative contents that do not provide sufficient information to confirm the claims made in the report, and which could not be verified due to certain circumstances (speed, lack of sources) during the publication of the content.
