Allegation that Police attempted to crush Serbian protesters in Zvecan is unfounded

FESTIM RIZANAJ

Several Serbian-language media outlets published an article today (June 6) claiming that special units of the Kosovo Police (KP) provoked protesters in Zvecan, attempting to trample them.

The article is titled "NEW PROVOCATION BY KURT'S SPECIAL TERRORIST FORCES! Albanians wanted to crush Serbs in Zvecan".

After verifying the facts, it was found that the KP did not attempt to violate the Serbs participating in the protest.

Excerpts from articles published in several Serbian-language media outlets:

Members of the so-called "Kosovo Police" yesterday once again provoked and disturbed the Serbs gathered in Zvecan, when they drove a police car onto the street where Serbs were peacefully protesting. Only by luck was a major tragedy averted.

Despite the fact that the article states that Kosovo Police came to the Zveçan municipality building to bring food to the police members stationed there, the media in question interpreted this as an attempt to crush the Serbian protesters.

So, the claim that the KP wanted to trample on the Serb protesters in Zvecan by provoking them is an interpretation not based on facts. (here)

In the footage filmed by the media, police officers are seen delivering a food package to their colleagues who are near the Municipality building. There is also a moment when a police officer asks the member of the Serbian List, Goran Rakić, to make room for him to drive, telling him that he does not want any provocations. (here)

The footage shows that the citizens did not allow the vehicle to leave the site and the protective fence erected by KFOR members. It is also seen in these footage how, after a few minutes, the international forces allowed the police vehicle to move towards the municipal building. (here, here)

Analyze:

The claim that the Kosovo Police wanted to trample on the Serb protesters in Zvecan by provoking them is an interpretation not based on facts.

Footage published in the media about the case shows that the Kosovo Police brought food to other members of the Police who were near the Zveçan municipality building and that they did not provoke or want to offend the Serbs.

Based on its work methodology, hibrid.info considers this claim to be "misinformation".
