FESTIM RIZANAJ

A Facebook page named "The Reis" published content on August 18 claiming that "Turkey has leased the Port of Khums on Libya's Mediterranean coast to establish a military base for 99 years."

However, after verifying the facts based on research conducted through online search engines, hibrid.info has found that such a claim has been denied by Libyan state officials.

Fact checker from Turkey "dogurlukpayi.com" they say they originally appeared in an unspecified Twitter post from the "Sanayi Savunma" TR account (which later removed the account post), were distributed and were reported within a short time.

Al-Khums Municipality denied the news that its port has been leased to Turkey for a period of 99 years.

In a statement  Libyan Government spokesman Mohammed Hammude denied claims about leasing the Al-Khums port to a foreign state, Anadolu Agency reported.

"The Lebanese government on Thursday denied reports that it had leased a port to a foreign country for military purposes.

"Rumors that the Lebanese state has given up on Al-Khums port or that the port will be used as a military base by a foreign country are baseless."
