Xhaka denies claims by some Serbian media

FESTIM RIZANAJ

Several Serbian-language media outlets yesterday and today (December 2-3) published an article claiming that the Swiss national football team player of Kosovo origin, Granit Xhaka, wore a jersey with the inscription "Jashari", alluding to the KLA commander, Adem Jashari, in order to provoke the Serbs.

Xhaka did this during the Swiss national team's match against Serbia in the framework of the "Qatar 2022" World Cup.

The articles published in Serbian-language newspapers carry the headlines: "SPAIN PUT THE FINGER IN THE SERBS' EYES AGAIN! Xhaka in Jashari's jersey celebrated the victory over Serbia!" and "THIS IS SICK: Xhaka praised the killers of Serbs! Shameful scenes after the match between Serbia and Switzerland."

Excerpts from articles published in Novosti and Infromer:

During the match, there were many provocations, he got into a fight, and in the end he further provoked the entire team, cursed at our players, and got into a physical conflict with them.

At the end, he put on Ardon Jashari's jersey and turned to the camera and greeted him. Many will perceive this as a provocation because the other Jashari is much more famous.

We are talking about the infamous founder of the so-called KLA, Adem Jashari! Politics has no place in football, but the Swiss captain cannot understand this.

Despite the fact that Adem Jashari was alluded to after wearing the Jashari shirt, Xhaka denied doing so. Xhaka stated that he had worn the shirt of another Albanian-origin footballer in the Swiss national team, Ardon Jashari, after promising him as a form of support.

Speaking after the match, the Arsenal midfielder insisted there was no "political background to it", saying it was for Switzerland teammate Ardon Jashari.

"Ardoni is part of our team and we spend a lot of time together. I told him if we won I would wear his jersey."

Based on the statement given by Xhaka, he is referring to Ardon Jashari, the Swiss national football player of Albanian origin, and not the KLA commander, Adem Jashari. (here, here)

Analyze:

Serbian-language media have published articles claiming that the Swiss national football player of Albanian origin, Granit Xhaka, has worn a jersey with the inscription Jashari, alluding to the surname of the KLA commander, Adem Jashari.

Xhaka made this move after the Switzerland-Serbia match as part of the "Qatar 2022" World Cup.

Despite the claims of the Serbian media, Xhaka stated that this action was in support of the young Swiss national football player of Albanian origin, Ardon Jashari, to whom he had promised that he would wear the jersey if they won the match.

Based on its work methodology, hibrid.info assesses that this claim is unfounded and is classified as "misinformation".
