Articles are published claiming that in the competition for new students at the University of Pristina (UP), for 5,723 places, only 3,398 young people have applied.
The claim was published on Saturday (July 12), initially in article of the Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK) portal, based on the statement of the Vice-Rector for Institutional Development, Quality and Student Affairs at UP, Majlinda Gjelaj, in an interview for Radio Kosovo.
What is the truth?
Hibrid.info has found articles explaining that the figures presented by Gjelaj were incorrect.

The same claim was later found in articles published by the media as "All1","Paparazzi.com”And“Kosova.info".
Hibrid.info has found a ITEM published in the medium "Koha.net", titled "UP clarifies figures, says there are no fewer applications than places for new students".
Based on the reaction of Bekim Muhaxheri, public communication advisor to the rector of the University of Pristina, in the "Koha.net" article, it is reported that the figures presented by Vice-Rector Gjelaj are incorrect.
According to this explanation, 6,563 student candidates competed at the bachelor's level, while 2,025 candidates competed at the master's level.
Other data incorrectly presented in the RTK portal article was the number of applications to the Physics, Chemistry and Biology programs.
Initially, the article of RTK, which showed the data on applications for the new student competition for the new academic year 2025/26, was titled "In the Physics program at UP for 80 students, only 4 candidates have applied".

But, later the title of this article was changed by this medium.
Articles with the same title were found published by the media as: "voice.info”And“kosova.info”. In the content, based on Gjelaj's statement, it was alleged that, “In the Physics branch, only 4 candidates applied for 80 students, in Chemistry, only 3 candidates applied for 60 students, in Biology, only 4 candidates applied for 45 students".
However, in the official application documents for these programs published on the UP website, it is confirmed that in Physics there were 20, in Chemistry 13 and in Biology 35 applications for new students (see here, here and here).
Analyze:
The claim that only 3,398 young people applied for the competition for new students at the University of Pristina is not correct.
According to official UP data, a total of 6,563 candidates competed at the bachelor's level and 2,025 at the master's level.
Based on the working methodology, hibrid.info assesses the claim as "Unverified Content"
Reasoning:
The "Unverified" rating is given to those informative contents that do not provide sufficient information to confirm the claims made in the report, and which could not be verified due to certain circumstances (speed, lack of sources) during the publication of the content.
