Opinion presented as news

HIBRID

The information portal "Kosova-sot.info" today (July 26) published an article titled "Hashim Thaçi and his criminal guard on the blacklist of unwelcome persons by the USA and the United Kingdom!".

After fact-checking by hibrid.info, it turns out that the title and photo do not correspond to the content.

The content includes an authorial article by analyst Gani Qarri, who had assessed that the Black List of Great Britain and the USA, according to him, should also include several names of other political and public figures from Kosovo, including former President Hashim Thaçi.

So, according to the title of the article, it implies that former President Hashim Thaçi and a list of other people have already been blacklisted by the US and the UK, which is actually just an opinion of the author of the article.

Also, the photograph published in this article is inadequate, showing the portrait of Hashim Thaçi.

Excerpt from the article published on "Kosova-sot.info":

Written by: ANALYST – Gani Qarri

The list of potential people who should be on the UK's blacklist in Kosovo is indeed very long, but for starters it should start with the names of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Xhavit Haliti, Azem Syla, Sami Lushtaku, Muharrem Mustafa, Adem Grabovci and all the others who were and are in their service.

-In fact, the first people who should be sanctioned, not only by the US, but above all by the law itself and the non-existent justice of Kosovo, are the perpetrators of the post-war murders and their instigators, who for almost a quarter of a century have been walking free and without any concern for prosecution by the law, despite their macabre acts.

In the Facebook post from the page “Kosova-sot.info”, the title is not enclosed in quotation marks, which suggests that it is a news story that presents a real event. The title is enclosed in quotation marks only on the page, that is, after clicking on the post made on Facebook. (see photo below)

To further clarify the fact that by removing the quotation marks from the sentence, it is implied that they are not the author's words, but are taken for granted. (see here the meaning of using quotation marks in sentences)

With this inadequate title placed on this article, readers could easily be misinformed, taking this news as true. This is due to the fact that in recent days this topic was current, as the United Kingdom had declared the former Prime Minister of Albania, Sali Berisha, persona non grata. (see here and here)

Analyze:

The portal "Kosova-sot.info" has published an opinion by analyst Gani Qarri, while in the headline it presented it as news, claiming that Hashim Thaçi and a list of other people are on the blacklist of "persona non grata" by the United Kingdom and the United States.

The title of this article is clearly designed to entice readers to click on the article, the content of which is presented as being different. For this reason, this article is considered "Clickbait".

Reasoning:

The assessment as "Clickbait" is given to those texts whose title has no basis in the content of the following text. Such texts and articles aim to attract the attention of the reader or even the consumer with a sensational title by promising content that does not actually exist and are created mainly out of financial interest, that is, due to increased readability. So, this type of text is intended only to click, which can be converted into a profit for the content producer.
