Five innovative applications aimed at combating misinformation, advancing media education, and creating a transparent and trustworthy digital environment were launched by HibridLAB, a program of the Action for Democratic Society (ADS)/Hibrid.info organization.
Yesterday, on December 18, 2024, Hibrid.info organized a conference where it presented these applications to the audience and the public. The applications were developed as part of the project “Combating Disinformation Narratives through Innovation and Experimental Learning”. Supported by the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, the project aims to provide concrete solutions to improve information in the digital space through the development of AI-based technological applications.
The project embodies Hibrid.info’s vision of combining creativity and technology to bring tangible change to the digital infosphere locally and beyond.
Shkëlzen Osmani, Director and founder of ADS/Hibrid, and HibridLAB, presented the project details, emphasizing the importance of digital applications as solutions to the challenges of misinformation. “Through this project, we decided to provide our audience with direct solutions via applications to avoid misinformation come from the digital space. HibridLAB was the answer,” he stated.
Osmani elaborated on the three main phases of the HibridLAB program: intensive training for selected students in IT and journalism; idea incubation, where the most promising projects are selected and developed; and idea acceleration, turning them into sustainable and useful products for the public.
On the other hand, Jennifer Lawson, Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, highlighted the significance of this initiative. “This conference demonstrates our shared commitment to fighting misinformation. Our support for HibridLAB aims to empower Kosovar society and help build a more trustworthy and fairer informational environment,” she stated.
During the conference, five innovative applications developed by HibridLAB participants were presented:
- The Media Transparency Application;
- The Clickbait Detector Application;
- The Claim Identification Application;
- An Educational Media Literacy Game;
- The Credible Information Application.
In the launch video for these five applications, it was emphasized that this is just the beginning of the journey, with confirmation that the project will continue to develop additional applications in the future.
It was also stated that HibridLAB is fully focused on utilizing technology- and AI-based solutions to address the challenges of the digital age. As an active member of the Global Alliance for Media Innovation (GAMI), HibridLAB remains committed to promoting innovation, transparency, and critical thinking in the media landscape.
The launch conference brought together representatives from diplomatic missions, international organizations, local NGOs, media representatives, university professors, and ICT sector stakeholders.
This project is expected to play a crucial role in empowering media and educating the public by addressing the complex challenges of misinformation in Kosovo and beyond.
